Driving a private hire car in the province of Toledo: where the demand is, how each job reaches your phone, and how and when you get paid

Toledo's demand is pre-booked, not street work: Barajas transfers from La Sagra and the capital, connections with Toledo's high-speed station and Madrid's stations, appointments at the University Hospital and in Madrid, and shifts and visits at the Illescas and Seseña logistics parks. Each job reaches your phone with pickup, destination, time and price already agreed with the customer, and you accept or decline; the customer pays by card when booking or in cash on board, and on Monday the weekly settlement arrives with every trip, its commission and the tips, which go entirely to the driver. Illescas to Barajas is 59 km and about 47 min: it is the province's typical trip.

Where is the demand in the province of Toledo?

It is not spread evenly. The bulk comes from La Sagra — Illescas, Seseña, Yuncos, Esquivias, Numancia and the towns along the A-42 — which lives facing Madrid and the airport: early flights, late returns, specialist appointments at Madrid hospitals and, increasingly, shift changes at the logistics parks at hours when there is no bus. Then comes Toledo city with the high-speed station, the University Hospital on the industrial estate and visitors wanting Puy du Fou or the old town without a car; and further away Talavera, the Mesa de Ocaña and La Mancha toledana, with fewer but longer jobs.

The province's route pages are the best X-ray: there are published routes from more than twenty origin towns to Barajas, Atocha, Chamartín, the Sur coach station, IFEMA, central Madrid, the high-speed station and the hospitals of Toledo and Talavera, the logistics parks and Puy du Fou. The typical trips are Illescas to Barajas (59 km, from 90,41 €), Toledo to Barajas (93 km, about 68 min) and Seseña to Atocha (43 km). What there is not is rank or street work: that belongs to the taxi and the law reserves it for them.

How does a job reach your phone, and what can you turn down?

The customer books on the website or in the app with pickup, destination, date and time, and sees a fixed price calculated by the route engine before confirming. That job appears in the driver app with all the details and the amount: you accept or decline, with no penalty for declining and no price argument at the end. If the operator has bidding switched on, a driver can also propose a price for open jobs and the customer chooses. Once accepted, the app navigates to the pickup, tracks the trip states and generates the trip sheet by itself before you set off.

What does have rules is the job already accepted: the pickup time is the one the customer has paid for, and at Barajas the courtesy waiting time from landing is set by the operator and shown to the customer before booking. If the customer does not show or the card fails, the job you performed is still settled: non-payment is the company's risk, not the driver's, and late cancellations are paid under the published cancellation policy.

How and when do you get paid?

Every Monday the week's settlement arrives: a summary of every job, its amount, the commission deducted trip by trip and the tips, which go entirely to the driver with no commission. Any cash collected on board is already the driver's and is simply deducted from what is paid out; it is never claimed separately. With a company car you are paid on payroll or with a weekly self-billing invoice; with your own authorisation the customer pays into the driver's Stripe Connect account and the published commission — 15% of each job — is settled automatically, with nobody chasing payments.

What there are not are volume promises: nobody can say how many jobs a week there will be in Yuncos. What there is is a published split, a price known before you set off and a settlement that reconciles trip by trip. The website's public tools — cost per kilometre, minimum price of a job, profitability per hour — are there so that each driver runs the numbers with their own expenses before deciding.

What paperwork is needed in Castilla-La Mancha?

A valid driving licence and, if you bring your own vehicle, the VTC authorisation in the holder's name, insurance covering passengers, the roadworthiness test and the registration document; everything is checked before the first job and the platform warns of expiry dates. Castilla-La Mancha does not currently require a regional aptitude certificate for VTC drivers as Madrid or Catalonia do, but the trip sheet and the filing with the national register of pre-booked hire services are compulsory throughout Spain before every trip, and the platform generates them on the driver's behalf.

There is one boundary worth knowing: jobs starting in Toledo can end in Madrid, and most do, but a vehicle authorised in Castilla-La Mancha cannot set out to pick up jobs inside the Community of Madrid; the general ROTT rule is that the origin must lie in the authorisation's region except for a limited share. In practice the corridor's work meets the rule by itself: you collect in Illescas or Toledo and drop off at Barajas or Atocha.

How do you start?

From the drivers page you send the application with the area you want to work in and whether you bring a vehicle or not; it can also be done from the driver app. The paperwork is checked, the driver is set up in the app and the first jobs arrive under the same rules as everyone else's. Anyone who already has their own customers and prefers to keep their own prices has another door, the partners and licence network, which this guide does not cover.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have to wait at the airport or at a rank to get customers?

No, and you may not: a VTC does not pick up on the street or wait at a rank. Every job is pre-booked and reaches your phone with time, pickup, destination and price.

What if the customer pays in cash?

That money is already the driver's. In Monday's settlement it is deducted from what is paid for the card jobs; it is never claimed separately and nothing is advanced.

Is commission taken on tips?

No. Tips go entirely to the driver and appear separately in the settlement.

What is the most common trip in the province?

The transfer to Barajas airport from La Sagra and Toledo. Illescas to Barajas is 59 km and about 47 min; Toledo to Barajas, 93 km.
