Living in La Sagra and flying from Barajas: Illescas, Seseña, Yuncos and the airport
La Sagra is the part of Castilla-La Mancha with the most people flying from Barajas and the least public transport to get there: neither Illescas nor Yuncos has a train, the Seseña Cercanías goes to Aranjuez and Madrid but not to the airport, and the buses to Madrid end at Plaza Elíptica. By road it is 59 km from Illescas (47 min), 59 km from Seseña and 61 km from Yuncos via the A-42 or the A-4 and the M-50. The transfer with a driver starts from 90,41 € and is the option that works at four in the morning.

Why does La Sagra generate so many airport transfers?
La Sagra is the plain between Toledo and the south of Madrid, and the fastest-growing part of the province in recent decades: Illescas, Seseña with El Quiñón, Yuncos, Numancia, Esquivias, Ugena, Carranque and El Viso de San Juan are today towns of families who work in Madrid or in the area's own logistics parks, with city incomes and habits and several flights a year. And at the same time it is an area with no real train: the high-speed line crosses it without stopping and the Cercanías only grazes Seseña on the Aranjuez line.
The result is an area that looks at the airport from 59 km away — less, in real time, than many districts of southern Madrid — and has no public way of reaching it before seven in the morning or after midnight. Hence the Barajas transfer being the most requested service in the whole province of Toledo.
What public transport is there and how far does it go?
Illescas and Yuncos have no railway station. Their intercity buses run to Madrid's Plaza Elíptica interchange along the A-42, with reasonable frequencies in working hours and very few at dawn or at night. From Plaza Elíptica to the airport you take metro line 6 to Nuevos Ministerios and change to line 8: with luggage, allow another hour from the moment you get off the bus.
Seseña has a Cercanías station on line C-3 (Aranjuez–Madrid), but it is some way from the town centre and from El Quiñón, and the train goes to Atocha and Chamartín, not to the airport: at Atocha you would change to the C-1 for T4. It is a workable combination mid-morning; early in the day there are not enough trains, and the full trip with both changes is around two hours. Cercanías and intercity bus timetables are at renfe.com and crtm.es.
Which road is best to Barajas from each town?
From Illescas, Yuncos, Numancia, Ugena, Carranque and El Viso the natural exit is the A-42 towards Madrid. The stretch that clogs is Parla to the M-40 between seven and half past nine in the morning; for Barajas the usual route takes the M-50 eastwards to the A-2 or the M-14 without entering the M-40, or the M-40 when the M-50 is busy. The R-5 and R-4 are toll roads and usually empty.
From Seseña, Borox and Esquivias you leave on the A-4, which enters Madrid via Pinto and Valdemoro and is the slowest southern approach at rush hour; the alternative is the R-4 toll road, which reaches the M-50 without jams. From Añover de Tajo and the river towns you join the A-4 at Seseña. In every case, a professional driver chooses the road for that moment's traffic; the fixed price does not change for the toll or the detour.
What time do you need to leave La Sagra for a flight?
The sums are the usual ones: the margin the airline asks for at the terminal (two hours for European flights, three for long haul as a reference), plus the journey — 47 min from Illescas without traffic — plus twenty minutes for the M-50 and ten for the pickup. For an eight o'clock morning flight to Europe that puts the Illescas pickup at around half past four; for a midday flight, around half past eight, which is already rush hour and needs the full margin.
Each La Sagra route page carries a table of pickup times by flight time, built with these margins and that town's real distance. And the province's airport page shows, in both directions, the prices from each town with its own page.
And the return: pickup at Barajas back to La Sagra?
An airport pickup is booked with the flight number. The driver tracks the actual arrival, not the one on the ticket, and waits at the terminal meeting point with a sign if requested. If the flight lands at one in the morning, it is the only means of getting to Yuncos or Esquivias at that hour: the metro is closed, the Airport Express drops you at Atocha and from there nothing runs to La Sagra until morning.
A practical detail: the Barajas pickup is provided with Madrid partners and subject to capacity, because the house authorisation is from Castilla-La Mancha and the service has to begin here; the airport page explains it with its conditions, and the calculator tells you whether there is a slot for your time before you book. Booking both ways together is what secures both.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a train from Illescas to Barajas airport?
No. Illescas has no station. The nearest with Cercanías is Seseña (line C-3), which goes to Madrid and not to the airport; you would change to the C-1 at Atocha.
How much is a private-hire transfer from Seseña to the airport?
The published "from" fare is 91,59 € for 59 km and about 49 min; the calculator gives the exact fare for your date and time.
What time will I be picked up in Illescas for a seven o'clock flight?
With two hours' margin at the terminal, 47 min of travel and thirty minutes' buffer, the pickup falls at around half past three. The route page's table details it hour by hour.
Do you pick up at Barajas for the return to La Sagra?
Yes, with Madrid partners and subject to capacity; you book with the flight number and the calculator tells you if there is a slot for your time. The airport page explains it.
Can I book one car for several families from the same town?
Yes: the price is per vehicle and you can add an intermediate pickup in the same town or the next one when booking. If there are more than four of you with luggage, say so, so the vehicle is suitable.
