The south-east of the province is already La Mancha: Consuegra with its windmills, Madridejos on the A-4, Villacañas, Quintanar de la Orden and Corral de Almaguer. They are closer to Alcázar de San Juan than to Toledo, and for the AVE or hospital many residents look to Ciudad Real or Madrid.

• Saffron Rose Festival (last weekend of October): Consuegra celebrates the saffron harvest with the windmills open and many visitors in a few days; access to the hill gets difficult and an early arrival helps.

Tip: If you are going to Toledo's old town, give the exact address: access is restricted and the driver drops you at the nearest authorised point.
