The Illescas and Seseña logistics parks: how staff get to their shifts and what a company can do

The logistics parks of Illescas, Seseña, Yuncos and Numancia de la Sagra work in shifts and public transport does not: intercity buses go through the town centres, not the warehouses, and at six in the morning or ten at night there is almost no service. Companies in the area handle changeovers with pre-booked cars with drivers — a fixed service repeated every day at the same time and price, or one-off transfers for visitors, managers and candidates — with monthly invoicing and cost centres. From Toledo to the Illescas dry port it is 41 km; from Madrid, the calculator gives the price for the exact address.

What is La Sagra's logistics corridor today?

In twenty years, the plain between Toledo and the south of Madrid has filled with warehouses. Illescas hosts Plataforma Central Iberum, one of Spain's largest logistics parks, with distribution, e-commerce and automotive operators, as well as the Airbus plant and the dry port, the rail freight terminal that connects the area with the seaports. Seseña, Yuncos, Numancia de la Sagra, Esquivias and Borox add their own estates along the A-42 and the A-4.

That means thousands of jobs working two or three shifts, with changeovers at hours when the area is asleep, and a workforce spread between the La Sagra towns, southern Madrid (Parla, Getafe, Fuenlabrada, Valdemoro) and Toledo. That combination of shifts and dispersal is what makes staff transport a daily headache for companies.

Which public transport reaches the warehouses, and when does it not?

The La Sagra intercity buses to Madrid and Toledo pass through the centres of Illescas, Yuncos or Seseña, and some lines stop at the estate entrances in working hours. What they do not do is arrive at six in the morning for the first shift changeover or wait for the end of the third at ten or twelve at night: at those hours the frequency drops to nothing, and from the stop to the warehouse there may be a kilometre of estate with no pavement. There is no train: the high-speed line crosses the area without stopping and the Cercanías only reaches Seseña, far from the warehouses.

The result shows in the warehouse car parks: a private car for almost everyone, and for anyone without a car, a licence or a compatible shift, a problem that ends in absenteeism or turnover. It is a cost to the company that rarely appears as such in the accounts.

How do companies handle changeovers and visitors?

Three formulas work in the area. The first is the fixed service: a car that collects the same people every day at the same points — a La Sagra town, a Cercanías stop in Parla or Valdemoro, Toledo bus station — and drops them at the warehouse for the changeover, with the return at the end of the shift; it repeats at the same time and price, is invoiced monthly and can be cancelled or changed with notice at no penalty. It works for a team of four or for a whole changeover with several cars.

The second is one-off transfers on a business account: client and supplier visits landing at Barajas or arriving at Atocha who need to be in Illescas by ten, managers going there and back in a day, candidates for an interview, posted staff staying in Toledo. They are booked from the account with the right cost centre and all go on the same monthly invoice, itemised by service. From Barajas to the Illescas estates it is 59 km; the price is fixed when booking.

The third is the contingency plan: the worker whose car breaks down, the company bus that fails, the shift that runs long. An active account lets you request a car at a fixed price the moment it is needed, with nobody having to pay out of pocket or chase a receipt.

What should you know about the legal scope of these services?

Private hire provides pre-booked services, not street hails, and in Castilla-La Mancha urban transport — within a single municipality — belongs to the taxi unless an exception is written into the rules. For the estates that means a transfer from Parla, Toledo or Madrid to an Illescas warehouse is interurban and is provided without issue; a trip within Illescas itself, from the town to the warehouse, is for the Illescas taxi or a partner with a local licence, and the platform refers it to whoever can provide it. Each town's page explains it and the calculator says so before you confirm.

It is not scheduled collective transport and does not replace a fifty-seat company coach: these are cars of up to four or six seats, with a professional driver and passenger insurance, which fit what a coach does not cover — odd hours, scattered villages, small teams, visitors — and which, because of their size, adapt to the rota every week.

How do you open a business account and what does it include?

A business account is opened from the companies page, with tax details and the people authorised to book. It includes a monthly invoice itemising each service, cost centres to split spending between departments or contractors, a written rate for regular routes and an instant indicative price for any trip from the form. For fixed services the rota is agreed and confirmed weekly; for one-offs, anyone with permission books from the account.

For a logistics company or a staffing contractor wanting more — arranging its workers' transfers for a commission, or integrating bookings into its own system — the route is the partner portal, which distinguishes between collaborating as a client company, as an intermediary or as a licensed operator, and leads to each sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Does the bus reach Plataforma Central Iberum or the dry port?

Some intercity lines stop at the estate entrances in working hours; at dawn and night changeovers there is no service. Current timetables are with the Madrid transport consortium and the operators.

Can you take a team of five people to the same shift every day?

Yes, as a fixed service: same pickups, same time and same price every day, with the return at the end, invoiced monthly. For more than four people with luggage a larger vehicle is assigned.

Do you do trips within Illescas, from the town to the warehouse?

A trip within a single municipality is urban and in Castilla-La Mancha belongs to the local taxi or a partner licensed there; the platform refers it to whoever can provide it and says so before you confirm. Trips from another municipality are provided normally.

How is the company invoiced?

One monthly invoice itemising each service and its cost centre. The rate for regular routes is set out in writing when the account is opened.

Do you collect visitors at Barajas and take them to the estate?

Yes, with the flight number and a sign if requested; Barajas pickups are provided with Madrid partners and subject to capacity, and the calculator confirms the slot before you book.
