Toledo bus station is below the city, on Avenida de Castilla-La Mancha, and serves the lines to Madrid Plaza Elíptica and to the province's towns. Reaching it from a town without a direct line, or with luggage, is easier by car.

Toledo city and the towns around it, such as Bargas and Olías del Rey, hold the regional government, the University Hospital, the high-speed station and an old town that is hard to drive into without knowing the access rules. It is the starting point for many AVE connections and the destination for medical appointments from across the province.

When demand peaks

• Corpus Christi in Toledo (June): The Corpus Christi procession, of international tourist interest, fills the old town and closes much of it to traffic. Expect closures and plan the drop-off outside the route.

Tip: From Talavera or Torrijos to Barajas, leaving at six rather than seven can save half an hour on the way into Madrid.
