Toledo city and the towns around it, such as Bargas and Olías del Rey, hold the regional government, the University Hospital, the high-speed station and an old town that is hard to drive into without knowing the access rules. Which way it goes

There are two ways from Toledo to Madrid: the free A-42 through Illescas, with more traffic, and the AP-41 toll motorway, usually clear, which reaches southern Madrid at the M-40. For Barajas the route continues on the M-40 or M-50 depending on the time of day.

There is no direct train from Toledo province to Barajas: you have to change in Madrid, and in the early hours there is no way to do it. For first-thing flights, a car from home is the only option that does not involve sleeping in Madrid.

When demand peaks

• Long weekends and holidays (Easter, summer and Christmas): Transfers to Barajas from La Sagra and Toledo spike at the start and end of holidays, and first-thing flights are the first to fill up.

Tip: If you are going to Toledo's old town, give the exact address: access is restricted and the driver drops you at the nearest authorised point.

Airport pickup

For early flights
